Structure

Network Components

The Australian Microbial Resources Research Network will consist of three components. These are the:

  • Australian Microbial Resources Study (AMRS)
  • Australian Collections of Microorganisms (ACM)
  • Australian Microbial Resources Information Network (AMRIN)

The functions of each component are summarised below. For further detailed information refer to Network Programs.

Network

  • Conservation of microbial resources
  • Supply of microbial cultures
  • Supply of molecular vectors
  • Supply of DNA and DNA libraries
  • Identification of microorganisms
  • Microbial diversity research
  • Taxonomy
  • Environmental genomics
  • Biodiscovery
  • Biotechnology
  • Gene discovery
  • Natural products discovery
  • Internet site for Australian Microbial Resources
  • Integrated electronic catalogue access
  • Location of cultures
  • Access to bioinformation
  • Access to expertise
  • Linkages to industry

Network Coordination & Management

The Network will be managed by the Network Coordinator who will oversee the operation of the three component programs. General policy decisions and priorities will be made by an Advisory Board. Working groups will be established to advise the Management Committee and the Network Coordinator on the Research Program, Australian Culture Collections, and on Information, Databases, and communication. The Network participants and users will be kept informed through an electronic Newsletter made available through the Network website. An additional committee will be established to organise an annual scientific meeting on Australian Microbial Resources and Biodiscovery. The Network coordination is illustrated in the diagram below.
